Council approves Loose special license for dueling pianos event; consent agenda passes

City Manager Ellen Glass reviewed the Loose Special License Application for the annual dueling pianos event. Councilors described the event as positive based on prior years and clarified elements of the application, including that donations related to the event are being temporarily held. No adverse public comments were recorded on the application.
Councilor Denise Miller moved to approve Resolution No. 17-25 authorizing the special license; Councilor Pam Howd seconded. The motion passed by roll call vote, 6-0 (Councilor Brenda Simons excused).
Earlier in the meeting the council approved the consent agenda, which included acceptance of the Aug. 11 meeting minutes, an after-hours park use request for Eagle’s Wooden Park (filming, Sept. 2), Resolution No. 16-25 authorizing a Genesee County CDBG contract extension, and financial reports. Councilor Pam Howd moved to accept the consent agenda and Councilor Tom Hicks seconded; the consent agenda passed by roll call vote, 6-0.
The council recorded no other formal action on the event beyond approval of the special license; staff said they are temporarily holding donations connected to the event pending internal review.
