Tessa Sweeney, director of senior services and community engagement, told the Loose Board of Directors on June 23 that the Loose Senior Center is expanding programming and partnerships for 2025 and 2026.
Sweeney reported that the center hosted a Ladies Tea and has launched a walking club; staff are planning Junk in the Trunk, Grandparents’ Day activities and outdoor events. She said Loose will host pickleball and a walking event as part of the 2026 Senior Winter Games and is exploring a county shred event for 2026. Program Director Dotti Tynes provided details about recent activities and attendance, and Travel Coordinator Gwen Fannon summarized upcoming trips to Lelli’s, Meadowbrook, Chicago and a scheduled trip to Mackinac Island.
The board received a monthly activity log for May showing a range of recurring offerings — exercise classes, chorus, book club, crafts, lunches, transportation and trips — with categorical totals reported for socialization, education, health and nutrition programs. The log lists 72 new senior participants during the activity period and cumulative duplicated participants of 20,413.
Sweeney and staff highlighted outreach and regular services such as the library partnership, loan closet, MMAP assistance and a roster of fitness classes (chair yoga, Tai Chi, gentle flow). Travel-related invoices in the check register include a Bianco Tours charge of $4,609.75 for a Mackinac Island trip and other vendor payments tied to programming.
Board members thanked staff for the programming and new ideas. The meeting record shows no formal action taken on program changes at this session; staff were acknowledged and will continue to refine schedules and partnerships.
Next steps: staff will proceed with planned events and trip logistics; the board will review any required program budget adjustments at a future meeting.
