Elections director reports 14,327 votes cast by 2 p.m.; recount and audits scheduled

Elections Director Pam Long reported to the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections & Voter Registration on June 16 that total votes cast in the June 16 runoff stood at 14,327 as of 2:00 p.m., including 8,807 advance votes, 659 absentee-by-mail ballots received (837 issued), and 4,861 election-day votes counted by 2:00 p.m.
Director Long told the board the May Risk Limiting Audit was completed with 100% accuracy. She also said the Secretary of State called for a statewide recount in the Republican Primary for Public Service Commissioner District 3; the local recount is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, with logic-and-accuracy testing at 9:00 a.m. and the recount to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Staffing updates were also reported: Elections Coordinator Lisa McGlaun will be promoted to Deputy Director of Elections at the start of the new fiscal year; the now-vacant Elections Coordinator position will be posted and interviews for an open Elections Assistant position are scheduled for June 29 and July 1. The board’s pre-certification and certification meetings for the runoff are scheduled June 22 at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively; the Risk Limiting Audit for the runoff is set for June 26 at 10:00 a.m. and the Ballot Imaging Audit is set for June 29 at 10:00 a.m.
The board accepted the report and scheduled the audits and recounts; no public comments were recorded on these updates.
