The Bennet City Council approved a request to install permanent lighting at the Bennet City Park shelter, gazebo and storage shed, contingent on the Bennet Community Fund raising required funds and with a city donation up to $1,000 from Park Funds pending mayoral approval.
Kristi Sittner presented the request and said the installation would proceed only if the Bennet Community Fund raises the necessary amount. Simmons moved to approve the installation and a donation of up to $1,000 from Park Funds with mayoral approval; Zieg seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote (YES: Buck, Zieg, Simmons, Schmidt).
The council also approved the Christmas in the Park block party application and RESOLUTION 2025-11.4 (listed on the consent agenda and not removed). During public comment, Larry Kramer raised a banner request for the Dec. 6 event and said Nebraska City Utilities could not put up the banner due to clearance issues.
What happens next: The Bennet Community Fund must raise funds for the lights; city staff will coordinate installation details and the mayor will approve the use of Park Funds if the fundraising target is met. The banner issue requires a separate solution because the utilities provider cannot install it at the requested location.
