Whately Ag Committee approves minutes, reviews sign quote and plans school garden outreach

The Whately Agricultural Committee voted to approve its December meeting minutes and reviewed routine outreach and program items at its Jan. 13 meeting.
Doug Coldwell moved to accept the December minutes as written; Erik Debbink seconded and the motion carried with a recorded tally of 6-0 (minutes note Jen Skroski was not present at the time of the vote). David Chamutka presented a vendor quote for five Right to Farm signs with artwork totaling $1,295 and said the artwork will be converted to a digital file for production.
The committee assigned Bill O'Bear as the liaison to the Whately Scoop and directed him to draft an update and develop a quarterly content calendar. Tori Meiler will send communications to farms in the committee database to verify listings and distribute the Shop Local pamphlet; minutes state that Caroline Warren is in the process of being hired as the committee's new administrative assistant and may take over pamphlet design, otherwise Jen Skroski or another volunteer will be trained.
Guest Teresa Carter, representing FRSU38, described a school landscaping project and said the elementary school plans a Community Garden Day in April with a small budget for materials and soil. Committee suggestions for the project included fruit trees, raspberry and blueberry bushes, large rocks for landscaping, and raised-bed construction. Carter also said Frontier Regional School will host a career fair on March 25 and asked the committee to contact local farms that hire graduating seniors to participate.
The Giving Garden Committee reported progress on administrative organization and made no requests of the Agricultural Committee. Members were also reminded about annual ethics training and the more comprehensive training required every two years. The committee noted a proposed change of its regular meeting day to Mondays and set the next meeting for Monday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. Doug Coldwell moved to adjourn at 7:11 p.m.; Tim Nourse seconded and the meeting ended.
