Grant Township reviews Master Plan draft, land-division requests and refers occupied tiny houses to code officer

At its Dec. 1 meeting the Grant Township Board received zoning and planning updates from staff and discussed land-use complaints.
Staff member Kim told the board there were many land-division requests in the month and that one permit was issued. The Planning Commission reviewed a rough draft of a new Master Plan; Kim said the Final Draft will be ready for the board to review at the commission’s Dec. 18 meeting.
The board noted a pond/mining request and a recent use-variance; Brad and Cliff were assigned to review those items. Board members also were told the Christian School is considering an addition for extra classrooms, but no decisions or permits have been issued.
Separately, the board discussed reports of tiny houses and campers occupied as permanent dwellings. The board agreed to turn those cases over to the Code Officer for investigation; the Code Officer later reported five violations addressed over the last month and indicated several cases will be referred to court due to lack of response or progress toward compliance.
