Officials said iLearn and certain assessment results are delayed in a re‑norming year and are being treated as hold‑harmless for accountability. On 9th‑grade on‑track (students earning 10 or more credits with specified course distribution), the district reported progress to about 87.6%, exceeding the board’s 5% target. Staff said SAT proficiency targets were not met broadly: reading and writing fell by about 2% while math rose about 2%, and the district plans targeted curricular and test‑preparation support.
Attendance was a focal point: the district reported 68.4% of students meeting the threshold for attendance at least 94% of enrolled days — a 7.1 percentage‑point gain over the prior period but short of the 75% board goal. Assistant Superintendent Shawn Bush explained that state accounting counts excused and unexcused absences the same for the attendance metric and described a "certificate of incapacity" process for extended medical absences.
Facilities and Blue Ribbon Phase 2 work were presented by Dr. Nesbet, who showed progress photos and construction updates: McKenzie Center nearing closeout, Sunnyside roofing and playground work progressing, Cre sby and Forest Glenn classroom additions underway, elevator and lobby renovations in process, and the guaranteed energy savings projects moving toward completion. Staff said most visible work should be finished before the school year though some outdoor areas may remain fenced to allow new turf or grass to establish.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the SAT target shortfall, the meaning of 'hold harmless' for assessment reporting, and how medical absences are handled. Staff provided explanations and said external score releases are expected in August or September for some assessments.
