Hardin County honors Treasurer Deborah “Debbie” McWilliams on retirement

The Hardin County Commissioners Court on June 23 adopted Resolution 17-26 recognizing Deborah “Debbie” McWilliams for long service to county government and congratulating her on retirement effective June 30, 2026. The court gave McWilliams a standing ovation and Representative Holt presented a certificate from the Texas House of Representatives in recognition of her service.
McWilliams, who told the court she planned to spend more time with family, said, "Y'all mean the world to me" and thanked elected officials, county employees and citizens for their support. The resolution recounted McWilliams’ service in county roles dating to the late 1980s and noted her service as county treasurer since Jan. 1, 2015.
Judge and commissioners praised McWilliams’ handling of county finances and payroll, citing accuracy and reliability. The court then adopted the resolution by voice vote. Attendees were invited to a post-meeting reception to offer personal thanks and photographs.
The retirement will take effect June 30, 2026; the county did not announce a successor during the meeting.
