Select Board accepts Franklin Land Trust oversight for Goodwin property conservation restriction

The Northfield Select Board voted March 17 to accept oversight by the Franklin Land Trust of a conservation restriction voluntarily placed on the Goodwin family property on Glen Road.
Liam Cregan of the Franklin Land Trust presented the request from Daniel and Tim Goodwin. Cregan said the land would remain privately owned but the owners would give up development rights to preserve agriculture and riparian habitat. The Conservation Commission reviewed and signed the paperwork last fall.
Mike Quinn of the Northfield Water District, in the audience, verified the property no longer has town water service but does have a private well; sewer easements for the parcel have been surveyed. The board voted to accept the Franklin Land Trust’s oversight and signed the document.
The town’s action places an institutional holder (the Franklin Land Trust) in charge of enforcing the conservation restriction while the owner retains private ownership and the restrictions associated with the CR.
