Athletics director highlights expanded offerings, new site and cooperative teams

Athletics Director Ryan Sylvia presented a broad update on the district's athletic program, describing a new athletics website, streamlined communications and increased participation across seasons.

"One of the biggest changes was our athletics website, which... links directly with our scheduling programming and our registration programming," Ryan said, describing a site that provides live updates, registration links, user-fee information and live streaming access.

Ryan reported that the district offered 49 different teams across 22 sports this year, providing approximately 665 events and roughly 250 bus trips, and said there were "1,032 participants over the course of the year" in interscholastic athletics. He noted the coaching structure includes 89 coaching positions (some volunteer), and highlighted the success of cooperative teams: the boys hockey cooperative won a league championship for the first time in program history and other cooperative teams (swimming, gymnastics, wrestling) rely on shared arrangements with neighboring districts.

He described a pilot middle-school track-and-field program with more than 64 students registered and noted state-level rule changes affecting middle-level waivers that could alter participation opportunities.

Ryan also outlined live-streaming plans for baseball, softball and lacrosse and invited the community to use the website's "huddle" live-stream link, noting viewers may need to allow a few minutes before a contest begins for the stream to activate.

Committee members thanked Ryan and maintenance staff for accommodating the demands of athletics and asked that the presentation materials be circulated to the full committee.
