The Glen Lake Fire Department reported operational updates to the Glen Arbor Township Board on March 17, including call volume, training accomplishments and capital projects.
Capt. Dykgraaf told the board the department handled 34 calls in February and completed about 415 hours of training that included hazardous materials and ice-rescue drills. The department completed a PTLS class and is now certified as a training facility, which Capt. Dykgraaf said will allow the department to teach classes to other departments. He described a Chief Development Class in Bay City he attended as “an excellent learning experience.”
Operational improvements noted included standardizing vehicle logos, purchasing a new snowblower for Station 2 and ordering a new turnout-gear washer and dryer as well as an SCBA washer; those items are expected to arrive before the end of March. Bids for a potential remodel of Station 1 were opened and vendor interviews scheduled; Capt. Dykgraaf estimated total renovation costs at approximately $500,000. The board will review vendor bids and interviews as part of a future procurement decision.
The board later adopted Resolution #7-2026, which the Emergency Services Advisory Commission had recommended; the resolution concerns FY 2025–2026 GLFD budget amendments. The minutes do not list line-item changes in the resolution; the board recorded roll-call adoption.
The fire department update concluded without further action; the department will proceed with vendor interviews and return to the board with recommendations as required.
