Glen Arbor fire captain reports steady calls, small DNR grant and Station 1 remodeling plans

Capt. Dykgraaf reported to the Glen Arbor Township Board that the fire department responded to 47 calls in December, a figure described as a little above average for the department.
Dykgraaf said the department completed 399 hours of training, ran a CPR class for the National Park Service and performed hydrant snow removal work in Empire Township. Daily maintenance tasks included fire extinguisher and boiler inspections. The starter on ambulance 393 was replaced.
The department received a 50/50 DNR grant to purchase 11 Indian SmokeChaser Pro 5‑gallon nylon water backpacks. Dykgraaf said a representative from Pierce Fire Engines will visit to review the new ladder truck build.
Plans for remodeling Station 1 are advancing; an invitation to bid will publish in the newspaper and a mandatory pre‑bid meeting is scheduled for Feb. 24 at Station 1. The board discussed the recommended equipment purchases from the Emergency Services Advisory Commission, which had reviewed payroll and recommended payment of unpaid checks and payroll as part of its report.
The board took no separate formal vote in open session to approve capital purchases beyond approving payment of Emergency Services bills and payroll; the minutes record ESAC's recommendation that the Township Board approve specific decontamination equipment purchases.
