Glen Arbor Township — The Glen Arbor Township Board voted on Jan. 20 to increase the township contribution for flowers planted in 12 downtown barrels from $300 to $400 and approved purchasing 12 used terra cotta pots for $600 to replace wooden barrels, contingent on a quality inspection.
The Glen Lake Garden Club requested both changes. Supervisor Tom Laureto moved, supported by Trustee John DePuy, to increase the contribution to $400; the motion carried with four ayes and one abstention. Clerk Pamela Laureto disclosed she is a member of the Garden Club and abstained from votes related to the club. Trustee John DePuy then moved, supported by Treasurer Don Lewis, to purchase 12 used terra cotta pots at $50 each (total $600) contingent on a satisfactory quality inspection; that motion also carried 4–0 with one abstention.
The pots being offered by the Sutton's Bay Garden Club were described in the request as 30 inches in diameter and 24 inches tall; the board conditioned the purchase on a pre-purchase quality inspection. The board recorded no public comment on the item.
The board's formal votes on these items are recorded in the meeting minutes; follow-up will be limited to the quality inspection and procurement process.
