A resident used the public-comment portion of the Crestwood School Board meeting on April 17 to criticize what they characterized as a 'hidden' special-interest project and to urge the board to prioritize art and music education.
The resident alleged that approximately '$60 or 68,000' was spent on a project intended to benefit roughly a dozen students and said the funds would be better spent on an elementary art program, an art teacher or a band director. 'Crestwood desperately needs to invest in educational programs for all kids, not special interest projects for a selective few,' the speaker said.
The board responded that a band director had been hired and was listed on the agenda. Board members did not confirm the dollar figure cited by the resident during the meeting; no vote or formal inquiry into the alleged expenditure was recorded at the April 17 session.
The complaint and the board response were part of a broader public-comment period that also raised questions about security, CTC transportation funding and bid transparency.
