Parents press Crestwood board on school security as district cites grant-funded staff

Tom Stitzky of Walden Park asked, 'Was there anything in that budget for bringing back the Wright Township police to Crestwood?' The superintendent and several board members responded that the district had added security through a PCCD grant, that there are now two security staff at the secondary campus and increased coverage at elementary schools, and that the district has been using contracted security rather than reinstating the township police in part because of manpower and flexibility concerns.
Board members emphasized that some operational and security discussions are not conducted in public for safety reasons. The board did not vote on changing its security arrangements during the meeting; the superintendent said any decision to reinstate township police would be a board-level discussion and, if pursued, would be brought forward for discussion with attention to staffing and budget implications.
No formal motion to reinstate local police was made at the April 17 meeting.
