Student urges Crestwood to install javelin runway, board weighs safety and cost

Sentac and teammates cited community comparisons and competitive disadvantage; student research suggested a lower‑cost installation (a figure around $15,000 was mentioned by the student), while a former track coach or staff member in the meeting estimated a higher, more conservative cost of about $68,000. Board members and staff agreed the installation would be a one‑time capital expense with a long useful life but asked for precise quotes and scope (runway surfacing, placement and any related site work) before making a budgeting decision.
Board members said they view the safety issue seriously and will consider the request in the context of facility priorities and the district’s capital plan. Staff noted this would be the kind of one‑time infrastructure project to evaluate alongside the summer project list and available capital resources.
Next steps: staff will follow up to obtain firm cost estimates and scope options for a javelin runway and report back as the board finalizes capital priorities in the coming budget cycle.
