Crestwood student rep spotlights arts, science and spring athletics

Gabriella White, the Crestwood student representative and a sophomore, told the board the district’s arts and extracurricular programs are thriving, with multiple students selected for the 43rd Annual Suzanne Maria Rosetta Memorial juried art exhibit and special awards for work that will be displayed at the school gallery.
White said the environmental club met a goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of plastic and is planning how to use recycled plastic to make a bench. She reported that 42 students competed in the Junior Academy of Science regional competition and 36 earned first-place awards and qualification for the state competition in May. White also highlighted spring athletics and a boys volleyball “Volley for Veterans” fundraiser planned for April 24 to benefit local veterans and nursing-home residents.
The superintendent and board members acknowledged the students and staff named by White. The board’s recognition continued with presentations honoring individual sixth-grade “Soaring Comets” from Fairview and Rice Elementary, where teachers praised students for leadership, academic effort and extracurricular commitment.
The student report and the superintendent’s recognitions underscored the district’s emphasis on arts, STEM competitions and student leadership programs ahead of planned spring events.
