Officials at a March 25 joint meeting emphasized intergovernmental coordination under the 425 development agreement as Cedar Springs and Solen Township prepare for new commercial and residential growth along the 17 Mile corridor.
Participants discussed using lateral drives and cross‑access requirements to reduce the number of curb cuts onto White Creek and 17 Mile Road and to promote safer vehicle flow. Commissioners and township representatives also prioritized sidewalks and coherent signage so new apartment residents can access nearby White Pine Trail. One participant noted existing easements and a hotel cut that could provide cross access to the new apartment site.
The bodies reviewed elements of their master plans and ongoing rezoning along the corridor; speakers said much of the corridor is intended for highway commercial use and that future roads (including a possible Cherry Street extension) are shown on the future land use map. Commissioners said the county will not pay for some future connector roads and that private development may trigger construction of new local streets as growth occurs.
Commissioners encouraged ongoing communication between city and township planning staff to align sidewalks, signage and business recruitment. No binding changes to the 425 agreement were voted on at the meeting; the commission closed the 425 discussion by motion and set the next joint/city meeting date.
