Cedar Springs DDA approves 2025 budget with additions for director benefits, events and dog waste stations

The Downtown Development Authority voted to approve its proposed fiscal 2025 budget after board discussion and line-item adjustments. The approved total expense for the coming year is $94,660, up from the $83,200 figure previously shared at the budget workshop stage.
Staff told the board that $83,200 had been submitted to city council as the DDA’s proposed base budget. During DDA deliberations members agreed to add roughly $4,460 to cover employer-side taxes and benefits associated with a proposed DDA director position, restore $2,000 to New Year’s Eve programming (bringing that line to $5,000), and consider adding two dog-waste stations in Heritage Park (about $1,500 each).
The additions and corrections raised the budget to $94,660, and the board approved the amended budget by roll-call vote. The motion carried; Miss Arp was recorded as absent earlier in the meeting. Staff will reflect the changes in the spreadsheet for upcoming reports to council.
Board members noted the DDA will also continue to use the facade grant as a tool for building improvements and discussed tracking additional one-time contributions (including a possible contribution to the Fountain of Knowledge). The final adopted budget includes the proposed event and program amounts and preserves project flexibility for short-term implementation decisions.
No formal amendment to DDA taxing authority or district boundaries was made at the meeting—the vote approved the operating and program budget for the 2025 fiscal year only.
