Fruitport Student Affairs Committee schedules final review of Thrun Law Firm policy updates; resident urges more in‑school interventions

Fruitport, Mich. — The Student Affairs Committee of Fruitport Community Schools reviewed the second reading of the June 2025 policy updates prepared by Thrun Law Firm at a meeting on Aug. 11, 2025, at the district central office. The committee recorded four attendees and set the updates for the committee’s Aug. 18 meeting, when members will be asked to approve them.
The committee’s minutes say the June 2025 policy updates are undergoing a second reading and will be returned to the committee on Aug. 18 for formal consideration. No motions or votes were recorded at the Aug. 11 session.
During the public comment period, Amber Olsen urged the district to expand intervention supports for students who do not qualify for special education but are not performing at high levels. Olsen told the committee the district performs well for high achievers and for students eligible for special education services and asked the district to provide additional, in‑school intervention during the school day for those in the middle band of need.
The minutes list no additional agenda items under "Other." The meeting adjourned at 5:04 p.m. The minutes were respectfully submitted by Jason Kennedy, Superintendent. The committee will revisit the Thrun Law Firm policy updates on Aug. 18, 2025, when it is scheduled to consider approval.
