Fraser schools to pilot Wit and Wisdom K–5 under $422,581 literacy grant

The Fraser Board of Education heard that the district has been awarded $422,581 through the 35m Literacy Grant to pilot the Wit and Wisdom K–5 curriculum for Tier 1 English language arts.
Kate Mulligan, Director of Elementary Instruction, told the board the funding covers curriculum materials, professional learning and coaching. Teachers at every building and grade level opted to pilot the program this year; Mulligan said pilot teachers were checked in with during the fall and will meet in January to present an overview to grade-level teams.
Mulligan said she plans to bring information about the pilot’s outcomes to the curriculum committee and the full board in January and to request formal adoption at a later meeting if the pilot demonstrates expected results. The minutes do not record adoption today; the pilot and professional learning are under way this school year.
