The Flat Rock Community Schools Board of Education voted on Jan. 19 to allow the district to participate in Unlimited Open Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year and adopted the 2026–27 school-year calendar.
Motion by Michelle Engelbert, supported by Harry Montgomery, authorized the district’s participation in Unlimited Open Enrollment. The same motioning pattern — Engelbert moving and Montgomery supporting — was recorded for the board’s adoption of the 2026–27 school calendar; both motions carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent grouping, which included approval of the Dec. 8, 2025 regular meeting minutes, general fund bills (board report, checks processed, purchase card and trial balance) and a leave of absence for Tonie Baker-Slepicka. The consent agenda was approved by motion of Mrs. Engelbert and support from Mr. Montgomery; minutes record 'Ayes all.'
The meeting included a presentation from Tammy Steffen on staff- and board-appreciation efforts at Bobcean Elementary and a brief Student Representative report from Andrew Gillum noting finals, athletics activity and a student nearing a 1,000-point career milestone.
The board scheduled its next meeting for Feb. 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:39 p.m.
