Melissa Twehues was elected president of the Flat Rock Community Schools Board of Education at the board’s Jan. 19, 2026 regular meeting, the board announced. Frank Hamet was elected vice president, Tara AuBuchon secretary and Michelle Engelbert treasurer in motions that were approved unanimously.
The election was conducted by Frank Hamet acting as temporary chair. Michelle Engelbert nominated Twehues for president; Engelbert moved and Harry Montgomery supported a motion to close nominations and elect Twehues, which carried. Engelbert also nominated Hamet for vice president, AuBuchon for secretary and Engelbert for treasurer; each nomination was followed by a motion, a second and unanimous approval.
The board then approved several routine financial actions, including the 2026 checking account signature authorizations and the board’s 2026 bank depositories, again by unanimous vote. The board approved the 2026 meeting calendar as amended after a proposal from Hamet to change the start time for regular meetings to 5:00 p.m.; the amended calendar was adopted.
Board members used standard procedural motions throughout the election and authorization items; meeting minutes record motions moved by Michelle Engelbert and supported most often by Harry Montgomery. The board approved the meeting agenda as presented earlier in the session.
The board’s leadership and calendar choices will guide the district’s governance schedule for 2026. The next regular meeting was set for Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
