Superintendent: weather closures shifted exams; Bedford site bids due Jan. 28

Because of two weather-related closure days the district pushed the high-school exam schedule: exams were moved to Thursday, Friday and Monday with a half day for the high school on Monday, and the second semester will begin Tuesday, Jan. 28. The superintendent said the Wayne County regional group monitors severe weather and districts make local decisions; the district moved two days to give families planning time.

The superintendent also highlighted a successful bridge-building competition attended by students and volunteers, including representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation and retired engineers, and said the event provided applied engineering experience for students.

On facilities, the Bedford site mandatory pre-bid walkthrough was completed with strong vendor turnout. Sealed bids are due Jan. 28; the architect will vet bids and conduct pre-bid interviews over Zoom with top bidders, with the aim of a Building & Grounds committee review and a recommendation to the full board on Feb. 19.

Trustees asked timing questions about committee meetings and community-member participation; staff said community members will be seated at the Feb. 5 meeting and that some committees will meet before that date because community members do not vote on committees. The superintendent asked staff to schedule meetings accordingly so the architect can present vetted bids to the board in mid-February.
