The Dearborn Heights School District #7 Board of Education on Jan. 22 approved recommended personnel appointments, filled committee seats for the remainder of 2025 and authorized a software license renewal and several professional-development reimbursements.
During the superintendent recommendations, the board approved the certified appointment of Jordan Baldry as a speech-language pathologist, effective Jan. 6, 2025, and accepted the noncertified appointment of Daa Kalali as an independent para-professional, effective Dec. 19, 2024. Both motions were moved and approved by roll call.
Trustees then set membership for key committees. The Building & Site Committee will include Derek Wall, Tanya Sterlini and Elise Stanovic. The Policy Committee members are Tanya Sterlini, Mandy Dyro and Wendy Anderson, with Mandy Dyro named as policy committee chair. Derek Wall was named chair of the Finance Committee. The Reinstatement Committee and a Citizens Advisory ad hoc committee were also staffed with named trustees. Trustees discussed whether to delay selections until an absent trustee could state preferences but voted to proceed so committees could meet.
The board approved renewal of the district's Google Workspace Education Plus license as part of a three-year agreement. The renewal was described in the meeting as based on a student count of 2,450 at $4.50 per license and an annual district cost reported as $11,025 to come from the technology software account.
Board members also approved several virtual professional-development attendances, including Wendy Anderson for CB 101 ($99), Mary Beth Bowski for a two-part board president workshop ($198 + $198 = $396) and Derek Wall for an advocacy course ($99). Trustees asked staff to mark future motions to show which classes are refundable through the state.
The meeting ended after a brief public comment period with no speakers and a series of 'kudos' recognizing staff and volunteers. The board adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
