Engadine board approves surplus-vehicle bids, hires staff and renews CD; superintendent reports grants

The board approved hiring Mary Browning as a first-grade teacher per the master agreement, effective for the 2025–2026 school year. Board member Moore moved the hire, supported by board secretary Nicole Solar; the recorded vote was six in favor (Chapman, Koerner, Moore, Nelson, Nicole Solar, Schroeder) and one opposed (Hopper).
The board also approved hiring an additional third-grade teacher, a change prompted by increased enrollment and budget availability that will split the current 3rd/4th multi-age classroom into single-grade classrooms. The motion was made by Board member Nelson and supported by Board member Hopper; the motion carried.
Board member Hopper moved, supported by Nelson, to hire Myrven Dake as a bus driver for the 2025–2026 school year; that motion carried. The board approved renewing a certificate of deposit for the district with Tahquamenon Area Credit Union dated Sept. 11, 2025; that motion was moved by President Daryl Schroeder and supported by Board member Koerner.
In superintendent and principal reports, the administration listed two grant awards: a literacy grant of $57,000 and an Indian Education grant of $29,000. The minutes present those amounts as part of the superintendent's report; they do not record separate board votes accepting those specific grants.
