Fairview Area School District board approves COOR ISD budget, vendor contracts and student trips

On May 16, 2025, the Fairview Area School District Board of Education approved the C.O.O.R. ISD 2025–26 General Fund budget, accepted vendor bids for sidewalk and server replacement, renewed a preschool lease, and authorized multiple student field trips. The Fairview Area School District Board of Education approved a series of budgetary and operational items at its regular meeting on May 16, 2025 in the high school media center.
By unanimous vote the board adopted the C.O.O.R. ISD 2025–26 General Fund budget resolution after the document was noted as having been distributed in April (motion Wnuk/Larrison). The board also accepted a consent agenda that included the April 14, 2025 meeting minutes and treasurer’s reports, which listed payrolls of $156,316.69, bills to be ratified of $172,808.76 and bills to be paid of $61,166.69 (totaling $390,292.14).
On procurement matters the board accepted a bid from Finished Concrete, Inc. for sidewalk repairs in the amount of $14,925.00 to be paid from sinking funds (motion Wnuk/Alchin). It also approved replacement of the district’s main data server, awarding the contract to ABMX Servers for $10,366.64 to be funded from 2018 sinking funds (motion Wnuk/King). Both motions carried 6–0.
The board renewed a lease permitting Eagle’s Nest Preschool to use a school room for the 2025–26 school year (motion Alchin/King) and approved several student learning opportunities: 4th and 5th graders to attend Starbase Learning Center in Alpena (motion Alchin/Handrich) and a 5th grade classroom cruise at the Alpena Shipwreck Museum, to be funded with Title IV money (motion Alchin/Larrison). All of those motions carried 6–0.
A tuition reimbursement request from staff member Kari King for coursework toward a Special Education Supervisor specialization was approved (motion Alchin/Wnuk); the tally was Ayes 5, Abstain 1 (Kari King) and the motion carried.
During closing public comment, Cynthia Light asked whether student behavior is considered when determining participation in field trips; Superintendent Troy Ross said he would follow up with her. Light also praised Sandra Slotta, who is subbing for Emily Harder, and expressed concern about communication with paraprofessionals.
The board moved into closed session later in the evening for contract negotiations and the superintendent evaluation and returned to open session before adjourning. A special board meeting to continue contract negotiations was scheduled for May 27, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., and the June budget hearing was set for June 26, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
