Engadine board approves SBIRT partnership, hires administrator and adopts 2025–26 calendar

The Engadine Consolidated Schools Board of Education voted March 19 to partner with the Mackinac County Substance Use Disorder Prevention Team to implement the SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) program in district schools.
The motion to approve the partnership was made by Heather Moore and supported by Nicole Solar; the motion carried. Lisa Simmons gave a brief presentation earlier in the meeting describing SBIRT components—screening surveys, brief interventions for students identified as at-risk, and referral pathways for those assessed as high risk.
In personnel actions, the board approved a contract for Heather Luoto as K–12 Administrator/Instructional Coach, effective July 1, 2025, on a motion by Hopper supported by Nelson. The board also adopted the 2025–26 district calendar on a motion by Nicole Solar supported by Heather Moore.
The board approved $16,520 in food service purchases using Food Service Spend Down Funds. The purchases listed in the motion were: a cashier stand ($3,486); two refrigerated buffet serving tables ($8,478); two tray slide bars ($890); and 60 polycarbonate food pans ($180). The motion to authorize the purchases was made by Chapman and supported by Solar and carried.
Several athletics and personnel items were approved. The board accepted the retirement of Deb Kerridge, Bus Driver/Transportation Director, effective June 30, 2025; accepted the resignation of varsity cross-country coach Tracy Germain; approved hiring Gregg Franckowiak as varsity track coach for the 2025 season; and rehired spring coaches Chad Germain (Varsity Golf), Randy Kerr (Varsity Track) and Megan Franckowiak (JH Track). Each action was moved, seconded and recorded as carried during the meeting.
No formal vote tallies were recorded in the minutes beyond the notation “M/C” (motion carried). The board adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
