The Elm River Township School Board met March 17 in Winona and handled routine finance and operations items, approving an 11-month certificate of deposit renewal, noting a new bus order and approving a contract to purchase LP fuel.
Board member Jim Plutchak moved to approve the agenda after the board convened at 6:00 p.m.; Linda Lajeunesse seconded and the motion carried. The board later moved to approve the prior minutes and carried that motion as well.
On finance, the board approved renewing a certificate of deposit at Miners State Bank for 11 months at an interest rate of 4.1%. The minutes list the rate and term but do not specify the principal amount. Jim Plutchak moved to approve the renewal; Jason Moilanen seconded and the motion carried.
During Old Business the board recorded that playground equipment discussion was tabled "for now"; the minutes note that action as "All in Favor." The board said it is continuing to work with Sivonen Contracting to reassess and obtain a new quote for the bus garage. The board also noted that a new school bus has been ordered with delivery anticipated in September 2025.
Under New Business trustees discussed staffing needs and work agreements for the 2025–26 school year and noted that Chromebooks and laptops need to be updated. The board approved the purchase of LP fuel from Keweenaw Petroleum on a motion by Jim Plutchak, seconded by Linda Lajeunesse; the minutes record the motion as carried. The board reviewed a list of summer maintenance duties and discussed budget preparation and employee compensation for next year.
The board set its next regular meeting for April 14 at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:20 p.m. after a motion by Jim Plutchak and a second by Linda Lajeunesse.
