Audubon County supervisors adopt FY26 budget amendment, approve wage adjustments and major road payment

Chairman Kent Grabill opened the meeting at 9:06 a.m. and the board approved the agenda before moving through routine items. During a public hearing opened earlier in the morning, the board considered FY26 Budget Amendment #3; the board later adopted Resolution 2026-40 formally approving the amendment as published under Iowa Code Section 331.435 and 331.434(5).
The amendment included appropriation increases for several departments that the board consolidated into Resolution 2026-41. The adopted appropriation changes list increases for Supervisors and Miscellaneous Court accounts and multiple Non-Department funds; the resolution records department-level increases ranging from $820 to $8,800. The board also approved department claims to be paid totaling $348,758.66.
In infrastructure business, the board approved pay estimate #2 for the Mockingbird Avenue project in the amount of $224,121.58 after an update from Secondary Roads Engineer Mitch Rydl, who also reported that interviews for a Roadside Assistant position are scheduled and discussed a proposal to split the Road Superintendent duties between two current employees with corresponding salary adjustments.
On personnel matters, the board approved two wage-resolution actions effective July 1, 2026. Resolution 2026-38 raises MV Deputy Courtney Nelson’s salary from 77% to 78% of the Treasurer’s annual salary, increasing her annual pay from $55,420.50 to $57,824.25. Resolution 2026-39 moves Deputy Recorder Christina Nelson’s wage to 73% of the Recorder’s salary; the resolution text set the effective date but does not specify the resulting dollar amount in the published minutes.
Other routine items approved without recorded dissent included asset deletions (a snowblower and three conservation assets), DNR MMP annual updates for two listed properties, and a fireworks permit for the Audubon County Fair. Attorney Chris Swensen reported he will prepare an updated County Farm lease with minor revisions after confirming payments and the previously approved bid.
