Committee approves police encryption and Lidar purchases; chief says park vandalism was resolved

The Three Oaks Village Public Service Committee on Nov. 7 approved purchases of encryption software and a handheld Lidar unit to outfit the police department, and heard that a recent park vandalism incident has been resolved.
Flint moved and Lockhart supported approval of Spectrum Wireless encryption software for four portable radios at $3,260, which staff described as mandated by the FBI; the motion carried with Kramer, Flint, Mondello, Lockhart, Holfels and Chair Faulkner voting aye. Mondello moved and Lockhart supported approval of a Kustom Signals handheld Lidar unit for $2,342.75; that motion also carried unanimously.
Chief Krause reported the department is outfitting a new Dodge Durango and said one piece of equipment is on backorder from Telerad. He added that Axon in-car and body cameras are expected to be functional by Dec. 12, 2025, with in-car camera installation to follow the next week.
Mondello reported that toilets in a park were vandalized; Chief Krause said the incident was handled administratively, that the responsible persons confessed and cleaned up the damage, and that repeated street-light outages have been reported to AEP.
The committee carried the equipment purchase motions and did not alter the policing plan discussed at the meeting. The committee adjourned at 10:46 a.m.
