Manager discloses seasonal hire is treasurer’s son; hire contingent on checks

During the manager’s report at the July 9 meeting, Village Manager Faulkner said he had hired a seasonal maintenance worker named Mark at $20 per hour for up to 30 hours weekly through Nov. 1. Faulkner stated, "To be transparent, this person is the biological son of Tracy Jones, the Village Treasurer." He added that the village's nepotism clause applies only to direct supervisors and that Tracy Jones will not be Mark’s direct supervisor; Faulkner said he will supervise the worker.
Faulkner said the offer is contingent on a background check, review of the driving record and a physical. Councilmembers asked whether the new hire held a commercial driver’s license; Faulkner said the worker has a chauffeur’s license and is willing to obtain a CDL if required.
Council did not record any motion or vote specific to the hire in the minutes; the hire was reported as an administrative action in the Manager’s report. Faulkner also noted other operational updates — sidewalk work on Magnolia, tree removals, cleanup at the Wisner property (6650 Central) and an upcoming Hickory Street detour — that he said will continue under existing procedures.
The council did not take immediate formal action at the meeting to challenge or rescind the hire; the minutes record that administration will proceed pending completion of the stated pre-employment checks.
