River Ridge board approves $105,000 traffic-radar sign system to address speeding

The River Ridge board voted unanimously on Nov. 19 to install a system of solar-powered speed radar signs and messaging to address speeding in the community.
Operations Manager Shane Willis presented AV-Tech LLC proposals for three remaining 15" solar-powered digital speed radar signs ($74,000 in one proposal) and additional costs for cloud traffic devices and a mobile unit. PSGRC General Manager Eric Long said the existing unit recorded about 800 speeding violations over a three-week period and recommended moving a unit 20 to 30 yards to improve enforcement coverage; poles are expected to be purchased from Paramount Asphalt at about $1,200 each.
On motion by Bob Schultz and seconded by Kurt Blumenthal, the board approved My AV-Tech LLC Estimates 24150 and 24151 to wire and install three permanent and one mobile 15" solar-powered digital speed signs with cameras and messaging, plus $1,500 per cloud traffic device per year, for a combined total of $105,000. Board members discussed the possibility that the homeowners association would assume cloud-device costs going forward and offset those costs with revenues from covenant traffic fines administered by PSGRC.
The board directed staff to purchase poles and coordinate installation; no enforcement schedule was adopted at the meeting.
