Premier Lakes reports algae and aerator noise; board delays Lake E4-A plantings pending association agreement

Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes updated the River Ridge Board on July 23 that lakes, preserves and dry retention areas are generally in good condition but staff had observed seasonal algae growth. Kurth said a cabinet was installed around the compressor system at the Masters Lake aerator and that "the sound level has been reduced from 64 to 52 decibels," a measure he described as acceptable in his view, though operations staff and board members raised concerns about the aerator’s tone.

Operations Manager Shane Willis said the tone, rather than the decibel level alone, is a prominent issue and the Board asked staff to consider relocating the compressor. Mr. Willis will coordinate with Bill and Alex Kurth on whether moving the compressor is feasible and report back at the next meeting.

Chair Bob Schultz summarized related flooding concerns in the Edgewater area, suggested staff meet with Tim Wilkin of Edgewater 1 to find an acceptable solution and recommended additional littoral plantings and rip-rap where appropriate. The Board reached consensus not to plant Canna lilies and to delay plantings in Lake E4-A until an agreement is reached with the Edgewater Association; staff will resubmit a planting proposal once resolved.

Separately, Mr. Willis presented the annual quality assurance audit for lake maintenance and dry retention and reported water levels were high but there were no compliance issues; he said the audit will be performed earlier next year. District Manager Chuck Adams presented an MRI Construction estimate (#C060-24) of $10,692.88 for a Type 9 inlet top intended to keep debris from blocking the structure; the Board noted an additional proposal is being obtained and kept the item on the agenda.
