School committee approves two senior trips to New Hampshire and Connecticut

The Maynard School Committee voted to approve two out-of-state senior class trips: a trip to Canoby Lake Park in New Hampshire and a trip to High Meadow Events in Connecticut.

Jamie Sanji, one of the senior advisors who presented the proposals, described both trips as supervised, activity-based outings with field games, pool access and on-site programming. She told the committee the advisers would plan activities to be accessible to students who need special support and that the trips are scheduled after classes end in June.

After committee members asked several logistical and accessibility questions, a committee member moved to approve both trips and another member seconded the motion. The committee conducted a roll-call vote and recorded all present members voting yes (the recorded yes votes in the meeting were Natasha Rivera, Hillary, Alexis and the chair). The motion carried.

Committee discussion noted advisers would ensure needed supports are in place for students with special needs and that details would be finalized with staff and families. The approved trip dates given in the presentation were June 1 for the Canoby Lake Park trip and June 4 for the High Meadow Events trip; committee members clarified the dates during the vote.

The committee did not attach additional conditions in the meeting record; trip organizers said they would proceed to finalize plans and notify families.
