Maynard committee accepts $50,000 timeout-regulation grant and $8,000 arts review award

The Maynard School Committee approved two grants during its remote meeting: FC213 (a $50,000 award to support the implementation of updated timeout regulations) and FC2718 (an $8,000 FY26 grant to support arts and cultural vitality teams and a program review).
Heather Newman, who joined the meeting online, described early plans for the larger grant: "It's $50,000. We're going to be using some of it for professional development opportunities. Some of it will go towards building in spaces within classrooms to help promote regulation for students," she said, adding the district expects to bring in outside expertise and use stipends and materials to implement supports.
Committee members asked whether the regulations were already in effect and how the funds would be allocated; Heather said the new regulations had not yet taken effect and the district would begin with regulation-aligned professional development and then adjust to specific regulatory documentation and requirements once the state guidance arrives. The committee approved allocating both grants to cost center 2000 (instruction).
The vote was taken by roll call; all three members present voted yes. The district indicated it would return to the committee if it needs to amend budget allocations after regulations or implementation plans change.
The committee also discussed awaiting notification on a larger $75,000 technology grant and other pending awards at future meetings.
