Broken Arrow board approves several leadership hires and promotions

The Broken Arrow Public Schools board approved a slate of personnel appointments covering school and operational leadership.
Graves recommended Harrison Whitworth for assistant principal at Centennial Middle School, noting seven years of special-education teaching experience and a master’s degree from Pittsburg State; the board approved the appointment and Whitworth introduced his family and thanked the board. "I'm really excited to come back home," Whitworth said.
Shannon Altum was approved as principal of Early College Academy. The board cited Altum’s 18 years of teaching, Advanced Placement experience and work as a dual-credit coordinator and adjunct instructor at Tulsa Community College.
Dr. Smith and others presented athletic staffing changes: Desiree Hall was approved as assistant director of athletics and Jason Kohler as associate athletic director; both offered brief remarks of appreciation and commitment to student-athletes.
Administration also announced retirements and successor appointments in operations and transportation. Roger Shepherd will retire July 1; Jason Levitt was recommended internally to succeed him and was approved. Grant Moore will leave to become a superintendent in Chandler; James (Jim) Miller, recruited from Butler Tech with 20 years of leadership and prior emergency-response experience, was approved as executive director of transportation.
All of the personnel items were moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting. The board offered congratulations and applause to the new appointees.
