“I've made a a decision, thought a lot about it, to retire at the end of the 26-27 school year,” Perry said, describing a career that began in 1992 and noting that his family includes multiple Broken Arrow graduates. He said the long lead time is intended to allow the board “to make a great decision moving forward” and ensure “a smooth transition.”
Board members responded with expressions of gratitude and applause. President Allen and others praised Perry’s leadership, calling the district better because of his service. Multiple members emphasized continuity, the strength of the administration and the board’s intention to conduct a careful hiring process.
Perry did not provide a timeline or process for selecting a successor beyond urging a team-based approach; board members did not announce specific next steps at the meeting. Perry’s announcement came during a regular board session that also included personnel approvals, contract awards and other routine business.
The announcement marks the start of a transition period that the board and administration described as an opportunity for community input and a deliberate search. The board did not take a formal vote related to Perry’s retirement during the meeting.
