Black Hawk County schedules township town hall Aug. 26 to brief rural residents on county services

The boardapproved a resolution authorizing county departments to staff the event, including public health, veterans affairs, the auditoroffice, sheriffoffice, secondary roads, planning and zoning, and the county marketing office. The meeting will present county services, responsibilities and planning initiatives and allot time for questions from attendees.
Supervisors and staff discussed logistics and format during the meeting. County staff said department presentations will generally be brief (many at 10 minutes; one or two may run longer) and the board suggested a 90-minute to two-hour block for the event. Hawkeye Community College has agreed to provide meeting space at no charge, and staff said there may be only minimal additional costs for hourly staff participation.
Board members and staff emphasized outreach and clarity for rural audiences, noting recurring concerns raised at township meetings: private well and septic questions, dust control and snow removal on gravel roads, cemetery and veteransgrave issues, planning and zoning procedures including variances and right-of-way vacations. The marketing office was asked to prepare clear guidance and promotional materials so residents know where to find county services after the town hall.
Recording logistics remain under discussion. Information-technology staff said they could explore audio or video recording options depending on venue capability; staff also suggested that a simple audio recording or a phone-recorded file could be used if full livestreaming is not feasible.
The resolution directs county staff to coordinate logistics, public notice and outreach. The board signaled support for holding the town hall as an open meeting for trustees and rural residents, with the goal of increasing awareness of county services and providing a forum for questions ahead of the fall season.
