Facilities update: Nesbit unit alarms at High School North, planned boiler replacements and ongoing maintenance

Separately, multiple Nesbit univent units at High School North have been going into alarm almost daily; those alarms generate system notifications that require on-site staff to reset units. Facilities said the district is pressing vendors and the manufacturer for detailed diagnostic printouts and will not close out the related project until the alarm condition is reliably resolved. Facilities staff said they would have the district send a formal letter to the manufacturer to escalate the issue.
On capital planning, staff described boiler replacement work planned at Intermediate North, including anticipated environmental remediation because of old insulation. The district said the target timing is to complete engineering and contracting in 2024–25 and to perform construction over the summer window (summer 2025 into 2026) if budget and permitting align.
Operational updates included a grant-funded playground installed at South Toms River Elementary, recent dishwasher replacements across sites, window replacement work at Westover scheduled to begin Oct. 14, and a September tally showing 1,431 work orders submitted with 1,190 completed and 241 open (average completion ~7.5 days). Facilities staff also noted a recent minor vehicle-related overhang damage at Beachwood and that an insurance claim and police report are in progress.
Board members asked several clarifying questions about project schedules and warranty follow-up; staff said they will return with permit updates and expenditure details at future meetings. The Buildings & Grounds meeting adjourned with no public commenters present.
