Council adopts new Pecos Police Department policy manual

Chief Lisa Tango presented the department’s revised policy and procedure manual, which covers the police department, the criminal justice center’s dispatch operations and animal control. "It has taken over a year to get to this point," Tango said, describing the work with Lexipol, attorneys and city management and calling the result a “very robust policy” that supports accreditation.
Council asked about staff training and acknowledgment; Tango said employees would receive role-appropriate portions of the manual, complete training, and acknowledge receipt electronically. "There's a check box. They acknowledge they've received it, they've read it, they've had training on it," she said. Council voted to adopt the policy manual as presented.
The adoption authorizes staff to begin implementation, training and accreditation steps; the chief said some policies already have been tested in courts and the manual modernizes topics such as cybersecurity and artificial-intelligence considerations.
