Perry council approves streetlight, orders speed study and OKs several public‑works contracts

The Perry City Council unanimously approved a package of public-works actions on March 5, authorizing a new streetlight at Britton and Lansing Road, ordering a speed study on Lansing Road near the city limits, and approving three maintenance and equipment contracts.
Council approved installation of a new streetlight using an overhead feed on the south side of Lansing Road for an amount not to exceed $300, with the funds to come from General Fund 101-448.000-926.000. The council separately moved to request a speed study in the same area to assess traffic safety; both motions passed with all members voting in favor. The streetlight motion was moved by Mayor Pro‑Tem Larry Lambert and seconded by Councilmember Bob Porter.
Public-works items approved included a proposal from Advance Rehabilitation Technology to rehabilitate a manhole at Lagoon #3 for an amount not to exceed $5,500; a Dixon Engineering proposal for water-tower maintenance services not to exceed $4,000, with DPW Superintendent John Souder authorized to sign the agreement; and a quote from Lansing Welding to purchase a Western snowplow not to exceed $6,467, also authorized for Souder to sign. Each of those motions passed unanimously after being moved and seconded by council members.
The council also approved payment of the bills presented at the meeting and passed a resolution naming the city’s depositories and authorized the Mayor, Treasurer and Clerk as check signers, requiring two signatures on all checks. The resolution listed Huntington Bank, PNC Bank, PFCU, Consumers Credit Union and the Michigan Cooperative Liquid Assets Security System as depositories.
DPW Superintendent John Souder reported that sewer relining work has started and apologized for not notifying residents in advance. Treasurer Meggen Galbreath noted the tax roll is closed and that delinquent tax payments will be accepted at the County Treasurer’s office in about a month. Mayor Sue Hammond reminded council of a deadline for congressional directed spending grant applications at the end of March and proposed adding a personnel item to the next agenda to consider formal appointment and compensation for Galbreath’s additional duties as Park Administrator and RRC Coordinator.
The council set a budget workshop for March 24, 2026, and adjourned at 8:11 p.m.
