Titus County to pursue .gov domain for email and website

The Titus County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on June 22 to authorize staff to pursue registering a .gov domain for county email and the website to simplify addresses and take advantage of security and accessibility incentives.
Seth Byam of Byam IT told the court the federal .gov registration process is free, generally takes three to four weeks, and includes options to migrate mailboxes, keep existing aliases and forward email indefinitely to prevent loss of messages. The vendor recommended a domain such as tituscountytx.gov to make email and the website easier to remember.
Byam said the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) presentation at a recent conference suggested a mandate to move to .gov by 2028 for a county of Titus County's size and that ADA‑compatible document scanning and searchable records will be part of the process. The court instructed staff to begin the application and migration planning.
