Sanford reports $9.457 million NRF award for Saginaw Road Bridge; $3M MEDC grant still pending

Officials said work is under way to secure an additional $3 million from a Michigan Economic Development Corporation grant; they told the council that MEDC’s decision on that request should be available toward the end of the first quarter of 2026. Council members did not set a construction schedule at the meeting and said that securing the MEDC contribution is a key outstanding step.
Councilors did not provide detailed engineering timetables during the meeting; they asked staff and partner agencies to continue coordinating required paperwork and funding commitments. There were no formal votes recorded on the bridge project at this session.
Next steps: the council expects the Local Bridge Advisory Board confirmation letter and a MEDC grant decision by the end of Q1 2026; staff will report back with updates to the council once those items are received.
