Sanford council approves 2026 insurance, January bills and DPW equipment; audit complete

The Village of Sanford council voted to approve the 2026 insurance renewal, accept January bills and authorize a small DPW equipment purchase at its Jan. 12, 2026 regular meeting.
Councilor Carl Hamann moved to approve the 2026 Village insurance proposal from Leuter Insurance for $16,846; Leah Ziems seconded. The motion passed with yeas recorded for Leah Ziems, Carl Hamann, Marcus Thrush and Don Whaley. The council also approved a correction to the December 8, 2025 bill total reported by the clerk and accepted the December minutes with that correction.
The council accepted monthly financial statements from Treasurer Travis Raymond and heard that the FY24/25 audit was completed successfully; the final FEMA Hazard Mitigation payment has been deposited in the village bank account. Marcus Thrush moved to approve January bills totaling $66,114.37; Carl Hamann seconded and the motion carried with the same four members voting yes.
Public works presented a request to purchase a Pivot Pro spreader with mount and installation for $2,790.50. Carl Hamann moved to approve the purchase and Marcus Thrush seconded; the council approved the expenditure.
Procedural motions included a motion by Marcus Thrush, seconded by Carl Hamann, to excuse Village President Dolores Porte from the meeting; the motion was approved. The meeting was adjourned at 8:07 p.m. after a motion by Thrush and a second from Hamann.
The council did not vote on the Midland County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update adoption at this meeting; members requested additional information before considering that resolution.
