Riley County adopts amendment to driveway standards, expands review authority
Summary
After a short public hearing with no speakers, the commission unanimously approved Resolution 05-2126 to allow the county engineer or designee and the emergency services director or designee to review and approve driveway proposals in unincorporated Riley County.
Bob Isaac, Riley County planner, presented proposed changes to the county's driveway standards and told the board the amendment "allow[s] the county engineer or designee, as well as the emergency services director or designee, to review and approve all proposed driveways and ensure the standards have been met." Isaac said the change does not alter the technical standards but expands who may administratively verify compliance.
The board opened a statutorily required public hearing; no members of the public sought to speak. Commissioners discussed that further tweaks to the regulatory document may come in future updates but stressed the need for a fair, consistent administrative review process that preserves health and safety considerations.
A motion to approve Resolution 05-2126, "a resolution adopting amendments to the driveway standards," was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with the chair directing commissioners to sign the document.
