Clerk read a petition from Mass Electric and Verizon to install a 50-foot Class H1 midspan pole (labeled P2850) on Farm Road; because no petitioner appeared the council voted to postpone that hearing to May 18. The council took a similar action on a separate Hudson Street petition later in the evening and set that hearing for May 18 as well.
A different Hudson Street petition proceeded with a presentation from Michael Frasier, a National Grid representative, who identified himself and said the proposed 45-foot Class H1 midspan pole was needed to align equipment because an adjacent pole begins to bend. The city engineer explained that pole geometry required placing a midspan pole in the straight run between poles 15 and 16. After the council closed public comment, a councilor moved to approve the petition with the city engineer’s standard conditions and recommendations; the motion carried with the vote recorded as '90'.
The council also referred a Glen Street petition for a 50-foot midspan pole (P450) to the city engineer for review and set its public hearing for May 18.
What happens next: postponed hearings will return to the May 18 agenda; petitions referred for engineering review will return to the council with the engineer’s findings and any recommended conditions.
