The mayor notified the council of a temporary appointment under Massachusetts General Law c.41, §61A: Brian Dawany was appointed interim city collector effective May 24, 2026 for up to 60 days, a term scheduled to expire July 23, 2026. Councilors moved to accept and place the appointment on file and recorded a 10‑0 vote.
The council also received the mayor’s nomination of Lynn Faust as an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals; Councilor Orum moved to refer the nomination to the Personnel Committee, and the motion carried 10‑0. Separately, Councilor Vital moved to send a council resolution in support of a nicotine‑free generation policy and two letters of support to the Public Safety Committee; that referral carried 10‑0 as well.
These procedural referrals mean the Personnel and Public Safety committees will schedule further consideration and may report back to the full council with recommendations.
