Council approves year-end transfers totaling several million and job classification updates

At its June 8 meeting, the Marlborough City Council approved multiple year-end transfers recommended by the Finance Committee and accepted updates to non-union job descriptions.
Councilor Irish presented the Finance Committee report, detailing a series of recommended transfers: a $3,177,000 move to cover an FY2026 snow-and-ice deficit and transfers totaling $3,931,000 across several accounts to address departmental shortfalls and projected cost increases. Committee votes on each line item were unanimous, and the council voted to suspend the rules and approve the transfers as recommended.
The committee also moved job-description updates and a seven-step salary ordinance submission for positions including city collector/assistant finance director and assistant recreation director; the council approved three job descriptions during the same suspension action.
Committee materials listed multiple smaller transfers (examples included $120,000 for repairs and maintenance, $255,000 to professional/technical services for additional engineering, and transfers into fuel and lubricants and natural gas accounts to cover projected increased usage). The clerk recorded the council votes as unanimous.
Councilors announced the finance committee will meet again on June 15 for follow-up items.
Because the actions were approvals of committee recommendations, no additional hearings were scheduled from the floor at the June 8 meeting.
