Ansonia Board Approves Three‑Year Teachers’ Contract After Union Ratification

The Ansonia Board of Education voted unanimously on Oct. 8 to approve a three‑year contract with the Ansonia Federation of Teachers covering the 2026–2029 school years.

Mat Hough, president of the Ansonia Federation of Teachers, told the board the union voted last week to accept the new contract and thanked board members for engaging in mediation. “The contract represents a great compromise,” he said, adding that it “shows they are able to work together for what’s best for the kids.” Superintendent DiBacco told the board administrators and negotiators reached a middle ground and recommended approval.

Board President Mr. Rich Bshara summarized the wage pattern in the agreement as a basic rate increase of 0%, 0.5% and 0.5% across the three years, with a step increase each year and an additional step in the final year. He said the parties also agreed on several minor issues reached during mediation.

The board recorded the motion to approve the Ansonia Federation of Teachers Local 1012 (AFT‑CT, AFL‑CIO) contract and the vote carried 4–0. No amendments to the proposed contract were recorded during the public meeting.

Why it matters: The contract settles teacher compensation and benefits for the next three years and follows mediation between district officials and the union. The board’s approval allows the district and teachers to finalize the terms and proceed with implementation.

What’s next: Board and district staff will implement the contract provisions for payroll and benefits; no further board action on the negotiated contract was scheduled during the meeting.
